GROUPS and Families
Relatively Yours caters for three
types of groups that associate people together:
·
Descendant Group. The Group Menu permits the nomination of a
patriarch or matriarch as the head of a descendant group. This is normally the
oldest ancestor in the group, and Relatively Yours 3 will then follow the
marriage and children linkages to combine all descendants of the patriarch or
matriarch into one group of related individuals. A descendant group is commonly
called a family.
·
Pedigree Group. A pedigree group combines all a person’s
ancestors into one group – any reporting is limited to one person’s ancestors.
·
Build Group. There are no implicit relationships between the
people in a build group. There is (presumably) some common reason for combining
these individuals together. Some may be blood relatives but there is no
necessity for this to be so. A build group would be appropriate for a town
history project, or where combining small parts of different descendant groups,
as would be the case if cousins from both paternal and maternal sides of the
family were to be associated together.
Each operate in similar fashions,
differentiated by functions that are relevant to each group. For instance,
descendant charts and reports are appropriate for a descendant group, pedigree
charts and ancestor reports apply to pedigree groups, while neither descendant
charts or ancestor reports are applicable to a build group.
The members list shows, in various sequences, those
individuals belonging to a group

… and their
life spans can be shown in graphical form.
