Type of Event This screen defines what event took place, in a structured
form for easy classification and in a narrative form for easy inclusion in
system outputs. For standard events, the Description field is disabled, as the
system can construct it.
For death events, the Cause of
Death can be entered, allowing a family medical history to be recorded and
optionally displayed on various charts and reports.
Events can be classified as sensitive, so that inadvertent
dissemination of private information can be controlled.

When and Where the Event Occurred If possible, the place where
the event occurred, and the date when it happened, should be specified. The
manner of entering place differs with the event format, with structured and
AGCI formatted events being validated against the places file; while free-format
events impose no strictures upon the data entered.

Further Information about the Event There are many occasions where
the mere recording of essential event information does not give the whole
picture - there may be aspects of the event that were noteworthy, or there is
additional information available that enhances our knowledge of the event and
its circumstances. This additional information cannot be anticipated in a
formal structure, so provision is made here to enter such comments as free-form
narratives.
Who was Present When the Event Occurred
As events in a
person’s life involve that individual’s personal efforts or success, an event
is properly attributable to a person. However, there are many events where
there are more than one person involved, both other family members and people
not recorded within the family records. All should be recognised for their role
in the event, and clicking on the Particpants tab will enable people other than
the primary event owner to be recorded.
There is still a primary event owner (the person whose events
are being edited) but the other people present at the event have their roles
defined, or otherwise described in narrative form.

From Whence
the Information Came Source notes or citations are
the evidence upon which we base our conclusions concerning our heritage and our
relationship to others. The source of the information must be both evaluated
for reliability and be available so that others can check our conclusions.
More than one source may have
been researched to verify the details of a particular event, and Relatively
Yours recognises this my allowing multiple source citations.

When a new source is entered, or
an existing one modified, there is scope to specify the origin of the
information, and to make an assessment as to the reliability of the evidence.

Additionally, the researcher and
date of research can be recorded, along with any comments that pertain to the
source.
