A Family History
should be more than just words. The collection of images of the people in the
family tree, the "Portfolio", helps add a dimension to the
appreciation of our forebears. Relatively Yours 3 caters for this by permitting
the recording of scanned images, audio recordings or video recordings and
automatically cross-references them to the people identified in them.

Media Type The
media type identifies the manner in which the portfolio object is recorded. The
full range of Windows compatible objects are possible, and can be categorised
to include:
·
Painting
·
Photograph
·
Sculpture
·
Movie Film
·
Video Tape
· Hologram
·
Sound Recording
External
File If an image has previously scanned, or another
portfolio object has been previously recorded, then Relatively Yours 3 needs to
be told where to find it. The three dots (...) button at the right hand end of
the field will invoke a function to browse for the location of this external
file.
Reference An
underlying assumption is made that these images are collected externally
according to some filing system. The existence of a unique number attached to
each photograph or image gains more importance. Portfolio objects are scanned
or recorded into the computer and are referenced by a filename in a directory
on a disk drive. If the filename is the same as the external filing reference,
then only one numbering system need be understood.
Caption
These caption details are displayed whenever details of the
image are displayed or printed, including the Portrait Index in the full family
history. The caption is entered as free-form text, with no editing other than
the requirement that a caption must be entered.
Event
Details This is where the image was taken, or the
recording created. This can at times be difficult to determine, especially for old
photographs found stored in granny's trunk in the attic. A taking or creation
of a portfolio object is an event in time, no different in concept to the
recording of a birth event.

People within
the Portfolio Object One of the tragedies of old photographs
is the lack of identification of the people within them. Relatively Yours 3
discriminates between family members and those outside the family, creating
hyperlinks and cross-references only for people who exist on the database.
